Anaerobic digestion (AD) is the core technology behind biogas production, using four biological stages to break down organic matter and generate biogas containing 50–65% methane. This gas can be upgraded to high-purity biomethane (up to 96%) for grid injection or use as a transport fuel.
Beyond energy production, AD creates digestate rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, making it a valuable organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. It also helps reduce odors, pathogens, and uncontrolled methane emissions, forming a sustainable closed-loop system that converts waste into clean energy and returns nutrients to the soil.
